getting started

which bessy cup size should i get?

To tell you honestly, sizing isn’t an exact science. Yes, there are a couple of factors to consider. But we like to keep it simple. If you’re a teenager or have a low cervix, we suggest you get size T. If you’re a first-time user, we suggest you get size S. If you’ve had a vaginal birth, we suggest you get size L. Please remember that these are guidelines only. Each body is different. Ultimately, your comfort is the goal. For a more comprehensive size guide, you can take our Cup Size Quiz. How long can I wear my Bessy Cup?

You can wear your Bessy Cup for up to 12 hours. But on heavier flow days, you might need to empty it every 3-4 hours to avoid any leaks.

Can I sleep with my Bessy Cup in?

Yes, absolutely. Since you can wear it for 12 hours, you can pop it in before bed and rest easy.

Can my Bessy Cup get lost inside me?

The quick answer is no, so don’t panic if it’s hard to find the stem of the cup when it’s time to remove it. It’s anatomically impossible for the cup to pass through the cervix into the uterus so there’s really nowhere for it to go. You can try squatting or bearing down to help push the cup out. If it doesn’t help, wait for the cup to fill with more blood to weigh it down.

Will my Bessy Cup leak if I exercise?

If you are wearing the right size cup, you should be able to move about without worrying about any leaks. In fact, you can do any activity you want – swim, hike, ride a bike – as long as you feel like it, of course. Let your body guide you in what feels good and what doesn’t.

Can I pee or poop while wearing my Bessy Cup?

Yes, you can. Your Bessy Cup sits in the vagina so it doesn’t interfere with pee (which passes through the urethra) or poop (through the anus). However, many people prefer to remove the cup before pooping as the cup may shift a bit or make pooping a little uncomfortable. If you choose to leave it in, make sure to check that the cup is still in place with clean fingers.

Can I use Bessy Cup if I’m a virgin?

Yes bes. You can start using a menstrual cup as soon as you get your first period, regardless of age, or (non-) experience with vaginal intercourse. However, it does require that you are comfortable with your body and period. Remember to relax when inserting the cup. If it feels uncomfortable, don’t force it. Just try again later.

How do I empty my Bessy Cup in a public restroom?

Remember, you can wear your Bessy Cup for up to 12 hours, so you may be able to wait until you get home. But if you really need to, you can bring bottled water into the toilet cubicle with you to rinse the cup. If you don’t have access to water, you can wipe the cup with toilet paper before reinserting. Then wash it at the next opportunity.

Can I use Bessy Cup if I have an IUD?

Yes bes. Many women safely and happily use IUDs with their menstrual cup. We also recommend you check with your doctor, so you can be confident and fully informed. If your IUD is newly fitted, we suggest to wait at least 2 cycles before starting to use the cup. Make sure your Bessy cup is placed low in the vagina. And when removing the cup, always break the seal to prevent any possibility of pulling the IUD strings.

Can I return my Bessy Cup?

Bessy Cup has a perfect-fit guarantee and that means we’ll make it right if the fit of your cup isn’t ideal for you. Reach out to us and we’ll help!

How long will my Bessy Cup last?

The Bessy Cup can last 10 years. If you see any tears or holes, replace it immediately, regardless of how long you have used it. We recommend to check your Bessy Cup every several months to make sure there are no rips or tears.

Can I swim during my period using Bessy Cup?

Can Bessy Cup be used as protection from unwanted pregnancy?

Bessy Cup is not a birth control device. It is solely used as a menstrual care product, and should only be used during menstruation.

Who can use Bessy Cup?

Bessy Menstrual Cups are suitable for women of all ages or life stages. However, in some situations (if you had TSS, or have IUD) you should consult with your doctor before using a menstrual cup.

How long is the learning curve of using a menstrual cup?

  • For some people, success comes right away, but for others, there is a learning curve that may take longer than expected. Although it’s best to have someone to help you start off with using the cup, you should never be afraid to approach whatever challenge may come up and try using the cup on your own. But it will pay off in the long run. There are two factors that impact anyone’s success when using a menstrual cup: the first is comfort-related and the second is a good support group to help them learn.
  • Typically, it takes at least two menstrual cycles to get used to the idea of using a menstrual cup, so it’s important to give yourself plenty of time to. Be patient with yourself as you navigate the learning curve. It’ll take some adjusting until your body feels completely comfortable with its new form of protection! Is it going to be messy?

Using the Bessy Cup does take a little more effort than some other feminine hygiene products, but you’ll find it clean and comfortable once you get the hang of it!
Be sure to wash your hands well before inserting and removing, and also after you’re done reinserting.

How would I clean my Bessy Cup?

Remove your cup and wash it with cold water to help avoid any discoloration to the cup. Then, please proceed to wash it with warm water and mild soap. Then give it a final rinse to completely remove all traces of soap. Your menstrual cup is now ready to be reinserted.
